Weekend Highlights: Reaching Goals in FFXIV, Majesty 2 & Witcher 101

Welcome to June! There’s only a few weeks left for those of us who are waiting for the Heavensward release! I continue to work at leveling my crafting and gathering classes while a number of folks seem to be taking a break to be fresh for the expansion when it comes.

FFXIV: Botanist and Miner Level 50

I knew that I’d reach level 50 botanist and level 50 miner much earlier than I would hit 50 for any of the crafting classes. It’s nice to have all gathering classes up to 50, and I worked on getting the ilvl 55 main hand items for two of the three. I did attempt to make the catches I needed for the ilvl 55 fishing rod, but had no luck. I’ll try again later.

I also cleaned up some of the crafting class quests I’ve left dangling (I have several I still haven’t finished from level 30), and did some minor gear upgrades. At this point, I have most of my crafting classes in the mid 40s, with Weaver sitting at 48. I can’t be done with Weaver soon enough, though, because the shard consumption for that class has gotten insane!

I also netted enough at the Gold Saucer to get the Gambler pants for Zuri, and am working on the boots now. šŸ™‚

In the meantime, Syn has decided to level lancer on Zeb, so I’m working on leveling my White Mage on Zuri. I forgot how shy I am of healing in dungeons, and the lengths I’ll go to to avoid dungeons with PUGS completely when I can. ^^; I’m looking forward to the days when being able to solo and duo some of this content is a reality. I wonder if it will help speed up leveling lower classes if you go in with a higher level friend. That would be nice.

Speaking of which, the prospect of being able to solo old dungeon content has me even more interested in Dark Knight. It just seems like a class that would excel in working through content on its own from what I’ve heard. Dang it. Not like I need another class to level!

Majesty 2

I wrote about an old favorite game of mine for the Steam Challenge: Majesty.Ā DahakhaĀ asked me what I thought of the original Majesty compared to Majesty 2, and I admitted that I’ve never played it before. But I promised to give it a shot (as it’s already in my Steam library) and report back on it this week.

So, I fired it up this weekend and I briefly want to mentionĀ that I have a lot of good things to say about the game. Review is forthcoming this week!

Witcher

So, I’ve been taken by surprise about all the hype and compliments surrounding the newly released Witcher 3. I mean, theĀ series hasĀ been out there for years, but I had no idea Witcher 3Ā was considered good enough to be compared to games like Skyrim. I own both Witcher 1 and Witcher 2 on GOG, but never played either of them, so all this talk got me interested. While I don’t foresee myself purchasing Witcher 3 until it comes down in price (too many games already), I decided to try out the original Witcher game to see if I had any interest in the series.

I discovered that I’m really enjoying what I’ve played and have a lot of good things to say about it (clunky combat put aside). Again, this is one of those games where even though I’ve put in 5 hours, I’m not ready to review it yet. I need more time with it, and maybe, if I’m persistent and the story keeps me hooked, I’ll be able to finish it. It’s been a long time since I’ve finished a single-player PC RPG.

But What About: Divinity Original Sin?

I just wanted to note that I haven’t forgotten about this game, but with the announcement that there will be an Enhanced Edition releasing this year, I decided to put it on pause until I get the new version of the game (which is free to all current PC game owners).

Apparently, this is going to be a fully reworked new game including new plot, new characters, new voice overs, and a new ending. The devs noted:

“This means that saved games can’t be transferred from Divinity: Original Sin to the Enhanced Edition. This is largely because of the technical changes we’ve made to how the game looks and feels, but the story has also been rewritten so heavily that most saved games would no longer be compatible with the plot.ā€

Since time is a big thing I lack, I’m going to hold off playing Divinity until this new release, so I can get the updated experience. Still looking forward to seeing what this game has to offer and really interested in how it will change.
