Steam Challenge Milestone: More Than Half Backlog Played!

steamchallenge

I’d like to announce that for the first time since I started the Steam Personal Challenge in 2014, I have now gotten my backlog numbers to under 50% not played. That means I have officially more games that I’ve played than not played!

Considering the overall number of games I own now has almost doubled since then, knocking my percentage down from 71% to 49% really makes me feel good about my backlog. Of course, doing some culling and game binging this week has really helped with that.

And there’s no way I paid that much for all these games. Steam sales FTW.

FFXI: Return to Vana’diel – The Run to Jeuno

I return to Vana’diel after not having played FFXI for over a decade. Here are my adventures!

The run to Jeuno.

It was just one of those experiences you had to have in your early 20s in FFXI. It was fraught with danger through zones that had mobs who could kill you in a few shots. And once a mob locks in on you in FFXI, you can bet they aren’t going to let up until you’re taking a dirt nap.

I remember making this run on a level 20 a long time ago. Because in Jeuno, the quest for your chocobo license begins. I did reach Jeuno back then, but I never did complete the quest for my license, sadly.

Now days, things are a lot easier with the home point and survival manual system. Once you reach a place and activate one of these two things, you can warp back there for gil or tabs. So I knew that getting to Jeuno was the challenge, and once there, I’d never have to make that run again.

I was level 23 when I started out, running from zone to zone. I purposely sought out the survival manuals in each area, so that if something should aggro me, I’d have a warp back at least part of the way. Thankfully, I didn’t need to use them. I had a few close calls, but made it to the city, and activated the home points without any deaths.

It was only once I got there and started the chocobo quest that I looked up what I’d need to complete it. Four clumps of Gausebit Grass. Checking the auction house, I saw that each clump is selling for about 5,000 gil each. Now, I do have a little bit of gil stashed, but that would cost me about 1/3 of what I own. So, I decided to go about it the hard way and gather the grass for myself.

Based on wiki information, these drop most often from Crane Flies in the Meriphataud Mountains. Another zone that was quite a ways away through dangerous territory.

Whelp, I better get my running shoes on.

FFXIV: April Goals in Review

ffxiv_04252016_211627

I know it’s not quite the end of April yet, but it’s pretty close. I doubt I’ll be finishing up any other goals before the month is over, so I wanted to take a look back in review. As I expected, I somewhat took a break from FFXIV this month. Some weeks, I hardly logged in except to help Vix and Xaa with a dungeon run or just to do the Crystal Tower trio. Sometimes I did nothing but race chocobos.

And really, that’s been a good thing for me. I’ve been able to explore my Steam library and even piddle around in FFXI for a little bit. Taking a break will most likely make FFXIV all the more fun when I decide to get back to Eorzea again. But despite that, I did manage to accomplish a few of my goals this month.

End Game Stuff

  • Finish Patch 3.2 story on Zuri✓
  • Level Monk to ???? ✓

Done and done. I ended up getting Monk to level 53, which is fine. I didn’t really have a goal set for it, and only used it during Crystal Tower raids this month. So, that’s not bad for hardly trying to level.

Crafting/Gathering

  • Level Alchemist to 60 (Currently 54)
  • Level Culinarian to 60 ✓
  • Level Blacksmith to 53 (So I can finally consolidate crafting armor)
  • Unlock Master II book for:
    • Alchemist (once at 60)
  • Earn Master III books for (not priority):
    • Alchemist
    • Culinarian

I only really accomplished getting Culinarian to 60 this month. But that soaked up a lot of my leves, so it made it harder to push for Alchemist in the end. I did get Alchemist to 56 as well, so I didn’t do too badly there. Alchemist will likely be my goal for next month. Didn’t push too hard to earn books, but I did work on crafting a few Blue Scrips.

Leveling Stuff

  • Level all remaining jobs to 25 (not priority)
    • Paladin
    • Warrior
    • Ninja
  • Level Machinist to 50
  • Level Scholar to 50 ✓

Most of my time was dedicated to getting Scholar to 50 when I ran leveling roulettes this month. I got some of her Poetics gear, though I don’t know if I’ll use her for Crystal Tower runs or not. I am having fun playing Scholar as a healer, though.

My poor Machinist is still hovering at level 47. I just don’t have the motivation to get it to 50. And I didn’t touch leveling any of my other classes, though I really should. Since I don’t think I’ll have any other leveling goals next month, I’m going to try to buckle down and concentrate on one or the other.

I have a feeling my goal list will be much less complex next month! 🙂
