Fiddle Progress Report – June and July 2024

July 31, 2024

I feel a little bad because I completely missed writing a progress report for last month. I kept meaning to, and before I knew it, July was gone. So, here’s the consolidated progress report, before Blaugust comes storming in and steals my writing time away!

I continued to practice consistently throughout both months. However, “consistently” sometimes meant only doing scales on the busy days. Still, practicing something, even scales and long bows, keeps me from putting the instrument down and forgetting to pick it back up again. The fact I can mark that I’ve continued to practice is important to keep progress and morale, so I allow myself some days off here and there with scale practice.

Back near the end of June, I progressed to playing Cripple Creek in the AFM practice. This is a much more demanding tune, and one that I’m still working on a month later. I feel like I still have time to spend with this one before I feel comfortable moving on to something new.

In the EEI book, I’ve progressed through:

  • #102 – This Old Man
  • #106 – French Folk Song

I could honestly move on from French Folk Song at any time, and probably will in the coming month. These tunes have been pretty simple compared to Cripple Creek, and I keep them as a sort of cooldown after the harder tune.

Nothing super exciting to share with my fiddle progress aside from the fact that I’ve been playing consistently since January, which is a wonderful thing. Here’s to another month, even if I have to do some scales here and there just to meet my blogging goals!
