Ratsputin was a Halloween horse of 2020, which came out a few years before I started collecting. Given this was a mash up of three things I love – Horses, Halloween, and Rats – I knew I would need to hunt this one down for my collection. Consider him one of my modest Grails.
Halloween horses are generally pricey on the secondary market, and Ratsputin seems to be somewhat harder to find even compared to other Halloween horses. I figure it’s because the mold, while not bad, is nothing extremely dynamic. Not to mention, not everyone is a fan of rats like I am.
So, my best guess is that the folks who originally purchased Ratsputin did so either because they adore rats (rare), adore Halloween Bryers, or just wanted one to complete some conga or collection objective. No matter the reason, I just don’t see Ratsputin pop up very often, and when I do, it’s rarely within a price range I want to pay for a Freedom-sized model.
That being said, I saw this fellow on Ebay earlier this year, complete with tag. While he was still a little more expensive than I would have liked, and remains my most expensive model so far, I did not hesitate to add him to my herd. So, here he is!
