Choosing a Surprise! horse from Breyerfest is always a gamble – basically it’s a horse gacha game, just with physical models. No one even knows what model is being made, and what the colorways for the models will be until the day the gates to Breyerfest open and pictures start popping up online.
In 2023, I got the Surprise! horse by default because I didn’t buy my Breyerfest ticket early enough to select my choices of models ahead of time. I liked the model well enough, but the colorway I got was pretty standard and not all that impressive to me.
In 2024, I didn’t like enough of the models to choose from, so I gambled and selected the Surprise! horse. Turns out, I’m not a huge fan of the model or most of the colorways, BUT… I ended up with the only coat color I actually liked (black leopard appaloosa). In glossy.
Now, I’m not a glossy collector. But the fact that only 375 models with this color in glossy were made gave me one of the rarer versions, so I let that one slide!
Overall, was pleased by what I got even if I feel like the model’s pose is somewhat plain, wish it had a nicer/longer mane, and feel like the neck is a bit lengthy. But who am I to judge, right?
