Misty of Chincoteague is a famous, historical pony who also has a lovely children’s book written about her. I read the book as a kid, so I was quite familiar with the pony this model was created after.
I heard early on when I first started my collection, someone say, “Every Breyer collector has at least one Misty.”
Well, I didn’t. At least, until earlier this year.
I don’t usually collect a lot of the older model horses, but I knew that if I bought a Misty, I wanted a vintage style one. While you can still pick Misty up fairly easily, some of the newer paint jobs give her a more brown coat, rather than the lovely golden coat of the vintage models.
I saw this particular model up for sale at Triple Mountain, and she was pretty cheap. Mostly because she was yellowed a bit, and needed some time in the sun (which I did do). Also, she was donated, and the purchase went to charity.
How could I resist?
I now have my vintage Misty (have no idea of what year she was made), standing on my counter in the kitchen. She just seemed a good fit for that spot!
