Coming Back to Guitar (Again)

Last night, I finally broke out my Enya guitar for proper practice. It's been a while - a fact that I'm sad to admit. I was so excited to get this guitar back in December of last year. While my practice record wasn't perfect that month by any stretch, everything stopped cold after the passing of my father on Dec 18th. It's been difficult to maintain proper practice of anything since then.

Having put down guitar for as long as I have means that I must work up the toughness of my fingertips again, as I was only just starting to toughen them up on the strings. That's always a hurtle to get over as a guitar newbie.

I was inspired by much of the music I saw on my cruise earlier this month (need to write a blog post about this), and really want to try to pick up an instrument again. Right now, I'm following the Justin Guitar app - which has had some really nice updates since last year in terms of setting up a daily practice routine.

I’m also using an old Mel Bay instruction book which focuses more on learning to read notation (which I used to know back in High School). It’s important to me to learn to read music as well as just follow chord charts.
