Turns out this was the pilot we were looking for - also the one branded as a traitor. Giving him the opportunity to explain, he's bad off all around.
He claims he's not a traitor to the Reformation, but left because he got word that his family is being held by a group called the Stitchers (who harvest body parts and sell them - lovely). When his commanding officer wouldn't do anything to help his family, the pilot went on his own (being labeled as a defector).
His story seems sincere enough, so Zarylla agrees to help the fellow - and does not ask for payment. This gives her a boost in virtue!
She was also able to return him to the ship quickly enough that no meal rations were needed (yay)!
