So, it seems my initial guess that it was Maddax inadvertently causing all the trouble with the ship’s system was correct after all! The boy described in depth what it was like to take control of the ship and the bot, which he thought was nothing but a playful dream since he was sleeping from the illness as he did it.
He apologized for the trouble he caused, and then pointedly asked if Zarylla was going to save his mom.
She now had to make the choice of whether or not to bring Maddax along or leave him behind. Zarylla did promise that Maddax could help in the quest to find his mother, but taking him could bring him into dangerous territory, near to the enemy.
Still, having someone who can manipulate a ship’s system could be very useful. So, Zarylla opted (after much deliberation) to bring the boy with them.
