What’s on my Phone? ~ Blaugust Day 30

This is part of the Blaugust series!

I was late to adopt a smartphone, and for many, many years, I didn’t need one. It wasn’t until my sister and her husband picked up iPhones a few years ago and started lauding their uses that I became interested. So, I took the plunge and bought the iPhone 5S on release day. It’s the phone I still use till today, and I really don’t have any intention of changing anytime soon, even though it’ll be turning 2 years old next month (?)

I actually don’t play a huge number of games on my phone. That being said, there are a few that have stood the test of time… usually being something I can quickly log into and do while my computer is booting up every morning.

Godville

Godville is a game that is not a game. It calls itself a “massively-multiplayer zero-player game (ZPG)”. Basically, it’s a fun game that makes fun of just about everything geeky and MMO you can think of.

Similar to a sim game, you are a god over a hero, whom you get to name and chose a few things about. Then, your little hero goes off and has adventures, fights monsters, earns loot… all while leaving you journal entries so that you know what they’ve been up to. When you see the hero is low on health, you can heal them (usually). When your hero dies, you can rez them. You can send your hero to battle bosses and encourage them to fight. Or… you can punish them and make a dark-hearted hero if you’d rather.

You can join guilds, your hero tames a pet companion… there’s just so many things in this game. And it pretty much plays by itself. I enjoy checking in a few times a day to give my hero a few heals, sometimes a rez. Not to mention the journal is really hilarious.

Note: Let me know if you already play, or decide to play, Godville and I will put you on my hero’s friend’s list so they can meet in game from time to time! 🙂

Hatch

Hatch is a tamagotchi type game only for iSo. Basically, you hatch a pet, known as a Fugu, and you care for it – feeding, cleaning, petting. As you care for it, its trust to you rises. Once it hits 100, new interactions are unlocked – training, etc. You can also take photos with your fugu, and play games, which is pretty cute.

You earn currency in the form of acorns and stars that you can use to purchase items for your Fugu. This customizes your pet’s blanket and background. Right now, my fugu has a summer beach scene.

I’ve had my fugu for over 640 days (if you don’t care for it, there is a chance it will run away). I’ve also bought all the cosmetics currently available in the store. I know they plan to add some new features to the game eventually, but I plan to keep caring for my little fugu regardless (it only take a minute or two once a day).

Neko Atsume

The cute Japanese cat collecting game that I discovered when everyone else discovered it. I still enjoy it. I still decorate and put out food for my cats. I haven’t met every cat in the game yet (mostly because I try not to spoil myself with guides). I’ve seen the game put out a few updates since I’ve been playing, and still think it’s a pretty cute game to come back to a few times a day.

Do you have mobile games on your phone that you’ve been playing for a while?
