FFXIV: Level 50 BLU, Alchemist 70!

I actually hit Level 50 on my BLU on Tuesday night, exactly a week after it was released. Again, I was taking it pretty slow and using the job to clear out many of the old quests that were clogging up my map.

Given the decreasing number of quests to find in the level 40-50 range (Why…? That’s the level range you NEED more quests..!), I gave up on this at about 45 and just began to grind it out in N. Than until I got 50. This wasn’t too hard, and it netted me a rank 10 chocobo, too.

I knew a nerf was coming to the chocobo companion – and it was slightly decreased with last night’s patch. What I didn’t expect was for them to buff the experience up to BLU level on all other jobs. I’ll take that change!

Anyhow, the next thing I needed to do was snag the skill Glower in order to unlock my level 50 job quest. Amoon had been running Aurum Vale unsynced with Syn a few times before this in order to work on capping it, but with no luck. We go in together, and get it on the first try.

And then, last night’s patch made both Glower and Mind Blast (both skills required to progress) 100% cap rate from now on. Ah, well. That’s fine. I got my skill and new snazzy outfit before it was nerfed. Now it’ll be easier to do for my future BLU, so I’m not complaining.

Looking just a little spooky here…

In other news, I also finished my second Level 70 crafter on my alt — Alchemist. In terms of RP, this was the actual crafting job I’d originally set out to finish on him. So now, that’s done, and he’s kitted out in full Scrip gear.

As you can see from the picture above, I’m going to be picking up my Armorer again for Namazu dailies and pushing that to 70 next. Leatherworker is taking on Moogle dailies in the 50s, and Carpenter is now my dedicated Ixali leveling job – I could really use Byregot’s for my non-specialist jobs.

Another goal I have, though it’s much more loose, is to earn the new Blessed King’s Tool for Amon’s Alchemist. You get this tool from completing the I Made That: Alchemist VI achievement… essentially, craft everything in the book for Alchemist (aside from Master book stuff).

Even though this is just glamour, I think it looks very neat, and fits the theme of my character well.

I’ve been plinking away at this when I have time (which I haven’t with BLU’s release), but it’s a little more difficult to do on Amon since he doesn’t have all of his crafting jobs leveled. There’s a lot of cross-job crafts that go into clearing the log… and while I can often take care of this by crafting components on my main, it would be nice not to have to flip characters when I needed things.

Just something long-term to work towards, I suppose!

  1. Gratz on BLU! I made it to 50 last weekend doing just what you did – got to about 45 or 46, then just bit the bullet and ground it out in N Than to hit 50. Then I started scouring the PF for BLU skill groups, so I’m down to only needing the 6 extremes, the final skill from Pharos Sirius, the one from the 1st boss in Turn 1, the “Diamondback” tank skill, and then the 2 one gets form completing enough phases of the Masked Carnivale. I’ve only done 6 phases so far. But I’ll get there…..

  2. Oooh nice work! I’m level 40 on Blue Mage atm. It’s super fun! Although 1000 Needles isn’t nearly as fun as my FC hyped up to me. Long casting times doth vex Fed.

    1. Try to get in Cutter’s Cry and snag Ram’s Voice from the Chimera boss at the end. Either that or Plaincracker (Golems south of Fallgourd). Ram’s Voice became my go-to replacement for 1000 Needles as soon as I got it.

      1. I got Dragon’s Voice from the Cutter Cry boss last night, if that’s what you mean? I don’t have Plaincracker though so I’ll check that out – thanks for the tip 😀

        1. Ram’s Voice is different from Dragon’s Voice. It’s an up-close AOE ice spell.

          What I do:
1- Sticky Tongue (pull and stun)
2- Bad Breath (dumps status effects)
          3- Off-guard (debuff)
4- Ram’s Voice (repeatedly until dead — this Deep Freezes them and usually they hardly get a hit in before their dead)

It’s repetitive, but gets the job done when leveling. Was able to take out things 4-5 levels above me with this. Never needed to use guard, and rarely had to heal. Do use healing chocobo buddy though.

          1. I’ve been using Plaincracker as my spammable. I hadn’t even thought about the freeze effect from Ram’s Breath. I’m gonna have to re-do my toolbar next time I play….

At 50 it’s higher dps than 1000 Needles since with the i130 gear you’ll do about 600-1000 damage per hit on a 2 second cast time (still 2.5 recast though). Prior to 50, even though the cast time is so slow, 1000 Needles is actually higher dps, though, becuz one’s crappy gear only has the 130 potency spammables doing about 180-200 damage, so they need 5-6 casts (totaling 12-15 seconds) to equal the same damage as a 6s cast 1000 Needles vs a single target. (I’m an omnicrafter, so I kept myself outfitted in level-appropriate HQ gear as I leveled, and the spammables were never anywhere close to 1000 Needles on single targets. They could achieve parity in dungeons vs 4+ mobs, though.)

In the solo overland areas 1000 Needles would 1-shot everything up to about level 34 for me, and 2-shot everything up to 50, so it went quickly. That said, now that my gear’s i130, 1000 Needles is gone from my hotbar…

            FWIW, my solo strategy was:

            1 – Sticky Tongue
            2 – Acorn Bomb
            3 – 1000 Needles
            4 – Acorn Bomb
            5 – 1000 Needles

And done. Acorn Bomb makes them not hit you or run around while you’re waiting for 1000 Needles to cast, and the 2nd hit of it still lasts 15 seconds. There’s no need for Off-Guard since the damage of 1000 Needles isn’t affected by it.

If Swiftcast is up then I’d use it to get a 2nd 1000 Needles off without needing the 2nd Acorn Bomb. Only once a minute, but … it helped.
