Discovering the Multiverse.Plus Creative Blogging Platform

Posted on July 8, 2022 by Aywren

Yesterday, as I was browsing Neocities, I ran across a blogging platform that’s new to me called Multiverse. This appears to be an in-development project between a few folks who have a really neat creative approach to microblogging.

Signing up for an account is free and only requires an email address.

Before you discount it, hang on until the end where I can show you how this can be a really neat tool that might supplement your current website, social media or blog.

Super Simple Post Creation

The thing that impresses me most is that Multiverse allows you to create visual and colorful custom graphics in an extremely easy to use way. These graphics become the posts on your Multiverse blog page, but can also be exported to use wherever you’d like.

When you sign up, you start by designing a “frame” style. These are the container boxes in which you place all other content. You can create more than one of these – in case you’re going for a different mood or style. You can customize everything from the color to the font!

Making a post is just as easy. You have three options – Text, Image or GIF. You select the option at the right and drag the box to the location within the container. If it’s an image or GIF, you select the file from your computer – you will need to have the file on hand.

When you’re done with your post, you have several options on how it displays. You can post it public and add it to one of the public groups, keep it absolutely private, or even make it only available to people who you give the post link to.

If you post it public, it displays in the site’s Home feed. Here you can browse the posts and creations of other folks.

You can find anything from webcomic-like storyboards to straight text blog posts. If you check out the Highlights page, you can see a selection of posts from the creators of the site.

Supplementing Your Content with Multiverse

This is all well and good, but what if you already have a site or a blog? Why should Multiverse be exciting to you?

In the top-right corner of your post’s page, you’ll find ways that you can export and use your creations on social media and other sites. Simply click the carrot and you get all kinds of options!

You can tweet out your post directly to Twitter. Or, you can save the post as an image using the Share as Image option – depending on the browser I use, I sometimes get a Microsoft pop-up from which I select the Snip & Sketch option.

You can also just straight out export into a .SVG (Scalable Vector Graphic) file, which is really nifty.

The exports look much like the original (though it doesn’t capture the GIF animations). It takes all the elements and combines them into a colorful image that you can use on your blog posts, social media accounts, Tumblr, Pillowfort, or embed as an image if you’re coding your own website at Neocities.

So while Multiverse doesn’t yet have a Follow option (that I can see) or a way to Like posts, it can still be an excellent tool for adding text to screenshots or creating graphics to share.

It’s free. It’s fun. Give it a shot!
