Blaugust 2022 – Awesome Free Vector Art & Icon Resources

When writing a blog post or creating a website, a strong image is one of the most important elements you can choose. Images draw the eye – on an Internet where everything is in competition for attention, a good image will often earn more views than even the best opening sentence.
If you’re blogging about something that’s already visual – such as a video game or photos you’ve taken – it’s pretty easy to snap a good and relevant picture to use. But when you need images for things like site headers, site icons, or topics that may not have a visual representation, you may find yourself out searching for a proper picture.
Here’s two nice resources I use when it comes to finding free graphics.
Freepik
While there are graphics you have to pay for on freepik, it also hosts a huge variety of free images – especially some great, colorful vector illustrations. The header image in this post came from freepik, for example.
The search is pretty robust as is the way to filter just the free types of images you’re looking for.
Note: There is a limitation on the number of images you can download per day. If you sign up for a free account, that limitation caps at 10 images per day. That’s still plenty, though!
Also, while no one is going to know and hunt you down if you don’t attribute, please consider dropping a little line like this when you use art, even if it’s just at the bottom of your page/post:

IconArchive
Do you just need a small icon image for something random – a small sidebar or footer pic? Or maybe you’re looking for a good variety of social media icons?
IconArchive is a fantastic resource for all that and more.
In fact, I’m surprised at what all is available there for free!
Again, the creators sometimes request that you credit them for original icon work, such as this above. But there’s a lot of nice free graphics here for personal use.
