Blaugust 2022 – FFXIV: A Bunny for Myself

Over the many years of playing FFXIV, I’ve shifted the identity of my main character several times for many different reasons. And, no – I haven’t done so again!
I’m pretty happy with keeping Ben as my main character. It’s a hard-won spot, but as a character I’ve written for most of my life now, he deserves it.
Despite that, I can’t help but feel like I wanted a character that was more like myself. This was mostly for things such as Twitter and social media where I’d like to post pictures. Ben isn’t a bad looking character, but he’s not very representative of me in the long run.
I think that’s probably why I held on to an Aywren-type character for as long as I have. But I knew better than to go back the way of naming another character using my net name.
After mulling over my options – Fantasias are on sale, after all! – I decided a few things.
- Ben would remain my main. No switching him around.
- I don’t want to roll a new character for this – I already have too many to keep up with.
- I’d like a female character (most of mine are male) that somewhat resembles me.
- I’d really like a character that is on Mateus and in my main FC.
- I’d like to avoid duplicating gender/race combos if possible.
So by those criteria, I narrowed it down quite a bit. Especially since I wanted her to be on my main server and in the FC. That really pointed to one strong possibility – Fljot Radljost.
Fljot has been a character name I’ve used for my Viera from day-one – a name I heavily researched at the time and have held on to. However, I’ve shifted the character who holds that name around quite a bit. Originally, she was part of the alt group on the other server. But when male Viera came out, I decided “Fljot” could be a male name as well, and went that direction for a while.
I eventually repurposed one of my Mateus alts to be this character, and have been fine with that choice. But seeing I have another male Viera in my alt FC, and I didn’t make much in the way of progress on this new one, I thought going back to female Viera would serve this purpose.
So that’s what I ended up doing – Fljot got a makeover!
She’s currently a Red Mage main (which is nice!) but only about level 72. I think she’s about to go into the first dungeon of Shadowbringers, if I remember right. While she’s been around for a number of years as a character, and I’ve collected items from past holiday events, she really doesn’t have a lot of anything unlocked.
No crafting or gathering at all. Though, she does have max rank with her Grand Company, which is nice.
I’ve somewhat avoided female Viera because they often have a sexy connotation tied to them, which I have no interest in. I think some of that has somewhat faded over time, and I think I made her a fairly cute, scrappy little gal. Overall, I’m pretty pleased.
I do need to work on unlocking Bard for her just because. Other than that, who knows? Finish up the MSQ, get her some crafting/gathering unlocks. Just have some fun time alting, maybe?
