Nintendo Switch: Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster Challenge

One of the gifts I got for my birthday this past week was the Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster bundle for Nintendo Switch. I’ve been awaiting the release of this set of games – though I hadn’t thought to get them as a bundle until I realized you get a little bit of a price break by doing so.
I know that I’m not always great at sticking to my long-term challenges, but one thing I’d like to do during my lifetime is play the entire old-skool Final Fantasy series from the beginning. While I did beat the original Final Fantasy on NES back when I was much younger, I’ve never played through FFII, FFIII, or FFV completely.
And so… I’m putting forth a self-challenge (not a goal) to make progress through the Pixel Remaster version of the games on Switch. I know that this version of the oldest three games are a bit easier in terms of difficulty than they were in their original incarnation, but that’s fine with me.
In fact, having put some time into FFI already, I see lots of nice quality of life changes from the NES version. There were a many little things changed – such as damage only landing on the creature you selected in battle (causing your attack to completely miss your turn if that creature died before you could attack) – that I appreciate.
The new option of being able to toggle random encounters on and off at will is an absolute joy for me. I’ve used it so much already, and can see how it’ll be huge in lowering the frustration that the older games could cause when things go terribly wrong. Yeah, some people might consider it cheating, but hey – it’s a legit option now!
Anyhow, this is just a quick post to say that I’m going to work on this challenge throughout this year. I doubt that I’ll be able to finish it in 2023 since that’s a lot of gaming and there’s only a little over half a year left – not to mention these aren’t the only games I’m focusing on.
I’ve added a little info section to this blog’s left sidebar that notes what game I’m currently playing. I’m hoping that will help keep me motivated and accountable to the challenge!
