FFXIV: 6.4 Times 4

Posted on May 30, 2023 by Aywren

I’m not sure what got into me over the weekend as I pushed through and finished the 6.4 MSQ on four different characters. This isn’t something I usually do on patch week, but I’m glad I got it done.

The trial fight was tricky, and even knowing the mechanics and having done it several times, I did not run it perfectly. Mileage varied between the groups I got, too – some were much easier runs than others. I basically pushed through because I wanted to run it while I still had the mechanics fresh in my mind.

In order to do that, however, I had to get my alts to at least ilvl 615. My Bun and Amon had the ilvl due to tome gear from the previous patch simply because they did enough PVP that I could pick that up. Tad and Tai, however, both needed at least two pieces of the new crafted gear to nudge their ilvl high enough to run the trial.

New Crafted Gear

I was prepared for this! As I wrote in a previous post, my crafters and gatherers on my Bun are both at a point where I can craft the new gear. Though, because I was only shooting to lift my ilvl and not to raid, high quality gear was not a concern for me.

I was able to knock out the gear that my two alts required so that they could progress and finish MSQ. I was also able to craft a couple of chest pieces and put them up for sale. Even at normal quality, these sold fairly fast. While this is only making a dent in the gil I spent to get my gatherers/crafters to a place to craft this stuff, it’s a start, and I’m happy for it.

The prices have come done significantly over the weekend, which was expected. I’m still crafting normal quality stuff in the hopes that folks after the glamour component, or folks who just need that slight ilvl boost (like I did) will pick up the gear at a discounted price.

Raids and Terncliff

Additionally, I also played through the new Tataru’s Endeavor quest, which took us back to see what was happening in Terncliff. No spoilers here, but there were some interesting things that happened – old characters meeting once again, a mysterious storyline, and a sweet conclusion that provides a housing item. Well worth doing!

And the new Panda raids. There’s not much I can say about them that wouldn’t be a spoiler. Overall, this set of raids felt easier mechanics-wise than the past sets of raids. I never run these things blind – they can be frustrating enough when I know what I’m doing. I also generally only run these once, just so I can see the story, not for any love of actual raiding.

While I still have yet to do a few other things, such as the new ocean fishing route and starting to decorate my Island Sanctuary, I feel like content-wise, I’ve taken my fill of the new patch. I’m still slowly working on leveling my Island, still gathering and crafting to hopefully off-set the initial cost of what it took to get me started, working on the new PVP series - that sort of stuff.

Zuri is next in line to move through MSQ. However, right now, she’s at the start of 6.1, but only in very minimal gear. I’m going to be working on outfitting her so that she can eventually make progress.

I do hope to see her through to 6.4 before the next big patch drops. We’ll see how far I can get, but now I can focus primarily on her… and on getting Ben through Shadowbringers as well!
