FFXIV: The End of Endwalker Again

Posted on January 11, 2024 by Aywren

One of my major goals in FFXIV was to complete the Endwalker post patch content with Ben before the expansion drops. I managed to do this before patch 6.55 dropped instead, finishing up the MSQ last night.

Last year, I talked a little about how I was struggling to make it through this content for the 6th time. I debated taking a break from it after Shadowbringers, but I didn’t end up doing that. Instead, I tried my best to pace myself through Endwalker – I certainly could have finished it much faster than I did, but I chose instead to take my time.

I still have two additional alts on the Mateus server who are sitting at the beginning of Shadowbringers. There’s a few reasons I’d like to level them, and I might even try to make some progress, but it’s not a priority.

I’m hoping now that a majority of my characters are at the same point entering Dawntrail, keeping up with them in the next expansion series will be less strenuous. That’s hard to say, though, until after I’ve experienced the expansion at least once - I usually try to get a sense of how to pace myself when running through the same content multiple times.

Have I considered not leveling some of these characters beyond this point? I have. I need to weigh the pros and cons of that, however.

For example, one of the main reasons I pushed so hard to reach this point on so many characters is due to the fact that level 90 crafting leves are quite profitable. If the level 100 crafting leves aren’t a big jump in profit, and the level 90 leves aren’t nerfed (the way they nerfed coffee biscuits before Endwalker dropped), then I might feel content leaving my characters where they are at.

Anyhow, the more I think about the Pictomancer class, the more interested I’ve been in it. I just hope that it’s a job that makes sense to play. I try not to say “is easy to play” – it isn’t so much ease of play as it is something that I might be quick to grasp and be comfortable learning.

I love how the lyrics of the trailer song during the Pictomancer parts encourage you to “discover anew” and that “the path that we take is ours to create.” Ideas like that appeal to me because I’ve been feeling so jaded with the game in general. As much as I like my Red Mage, changing it up with a fun class to learn might be just what I need to get out of the funk.

However, that’s not what this post was meant to be about. I’m celebrating Ben’s completion of all current patches just in time for the new patch! Time to rest from MSQ for a little bit before I dive in again to complete 6.55 next week for my sextet.
