FFXIV: The Final Fantasy XVI Crossover Event
Posted on April 18, 2024 by Aywren
Seeing that Yoshi-P is the director of both games, it was only a matter of time before we got a crossover event with FFXVI. While it’s been going on for a few weeks now, you still have a little under three weeks to get it done if you haven’t already.
You do have to be at least level 50 to participate, and there is a battle sequence you have to fight through (similar to the FFXV crossover). But there’s no FATE grinding or extra time sinks in this one, aside from escorting Clive through locations. The team seems to be very fond of the NPC-follow feature they introduced in Endwalker, and tend to use it every chance that presents itself.
The rewards, however, are very good. Straight up, you get a full set of glamour, a Torgal wolf mount, and a Torgal minion. You also unlock a Clive triple triad card and a bunch of orchestrion music, all which you can claim for MGP at the Gold Saucer. I’m not sure if these are time-gated or permanent unlocks, so I’d pick them up while the event is still going if you have the currency to do so.
While I haven’t played FFXVI and don’t know much about the story or the character, I’ve heard that the devs were super careful about how much information about Clive was presented in the event. I honestly think there’s quite a bit there, coming into it as someone who knew nothing before now. And, of course, there’s the little nudge to go check the game out at the end of the quest line… which is the whole purpose, of course.
Overall, the event is short enough that even doing it on alts (skipping the cutscenes) isn’t that painful. The rewards make it worth it, too. So, if you have a level 50, hit it up before it’s gone.
Though… based on what we’re seeing with other crossover events, it’ll likely return again someday.
