FFXIV: My Dawntrail Challenge Log

Posted on July 5, 2024 by Aywren

While I did finish the Dawntrail MSQ early this morning, I’m not going to talk about that just yet. Because I have something more important to talk about – what I’m going to be working on in the future!

One of the personal issues I had with Endwalker, especially towards the end of post patch content, was the lack of a motivating project to work on. That wasn’t for lack of trying to find one, mind you, though I suppose I could have looked a little harder. Just nothing… really stood out to me as a MMO carrot on a stick.

After watching so many of Cider Spider’s achievement videos, I’ve wanted to find something to work towards, too. I’m not an achievement hunter by any means, but there are other things out there that I do enjoy. Like collecting mounts.

Turns out, there’s a number of mounts I really, really want from this expansion. Not only do we get a mount for getting all jobs to level 100 this time around (thank you), but the mount you can get from bicolor gemstone vouchers this time caught my eye – unlike the Endwalker mount, which I took one look at and just shrugged.

This means I have a lot of work to do, and that’s not a bad thing!

My Challenge Project List

As to avoid spoilers of what the mounts are, I’ll just mention the way you obtain the mounts in this following list:

  • Level all jobs to 100
  • 500 bi-color gemstone vouchers (FATES)
  • 100 horn tokens (I think this is from scrips)
  • 3,200 sacks of nuts (hunts)
  • Rank 25 in the current series of PVP

Luckily, these objectives do overlap each other. For example, running PVP and running FATES also give XP to lower level jobs, which helps work towards getting all jobs to 100.

I am also in a position where I was very lax on my FATE running last expansion. I’ve only completely cleared two zones. One of my goals has been to go back and do the rest of them, so this will also overlap with my project to work on the gemstone vouchers. However, before I can even start on that, I need to clear FATES in all of the Dawntrail zones, so… that’s going to be a lot of work in and of itself.

My Challenge Log

In order to encourage myself on this project, I took one of the sections in my traveler’s notebook and turned it into a log book where I can keep track of my progress.

I’ve done this partially because I want to encourage myself to log more things by hand and to put the notebook to use. I feel like writing it down may help keep me motivated as I look back at the things I’ve done to make progress.

This also gives me a way to track, and eventually blog about, the kind of stuff I’ve been doing in game. I’ve only been doing this for a few days, but it’s neat to look back on and see what I’ve achieved bit by bit.

Anyhow, these are the projects I am going to be working on, alongside of leveling my gatherers, and hopefully crafters. Lots to do for me in Dawntrail! Hope you’re having fun!
