How to Fish in AFK Journey

I love fishing in just about any game that I play, be it MMO, farming, or survival game. So, I loved the idea of the new fishing mini-game that they added to the latest patch in AFK Journey yesterday.
Sadly, the game doesn’t immediately point you in the direction of the fishing spots in an obvious way – just an FYI, you find them on the overworld map. But everything else about the game runs like a standard fishing mini-game that you’ve seen before.
First, open the world map to find the fishing spot icons.
Most of the time they’re silver, but I think you can get a gold fish each day as well. The gold has promised special catches, though you can catch the specials at the regular spots as well. You just have to invest a little time and have some luck.
Clicking on the icon shows you the possible fish you can catch at the location. That way, you can see if you’ve caught all the types of fish there, or if you can catch a rare fish there of the type you need.
Once you’ve reached the spot, interact with it. Since I play on PC and not on tablet, I’ll reference the PC controls from here on out.
Wait until the fish is hooked. The game does a good job of telling you when to tap to begin your catch.
A normal fish is just an instant catch, but special silver and gold fish require a mini-game to catch. Your goal is to keep the fish icon in the middle of the oval as it moves horizontally along the bar. For the PC, this means tapping and holding the F button.
After a period of successfully keeping the fish in the oval, you’ll power up a strong pull with the E button. This is a short period of time where the game takes over for you and auto pulls at a faster rate.
Rare fish are more erratic in their patterns and require a longer reel time, so you always know you have something special if the mini-game is a bit more intense. Reeling in the big ones also give you a special screen.
You can view the fish you’ve caught from your fishing log – located on a button in the top right corner when you’re interacting with a fishing location. This is broken down by area of the map, of which there are currently four.
Each fishing hole only has a certain number of attempts, and it seems like they reset each day. You can earn a number of rewards such as invite letters and a special avatar frame – which is what I’m fishing for right now.
So, get out there and have some fishing fun!
