My Goals for 2025

Posted on January 1, 2025 by Aywren

Buckle up, I’ve got a big list of goals for 2025! I’m including a few project-type things in here this year, as well, which is new. Some of these goals are repeats of previous year goals, things I want to maintain and do better than last year.

So, let’s get started!

Play the Games I Own

Play the Games

A staple for my goals list is to continue tackling my Steam backlog. I’m not even looking at my Epic or GOG backlogs yet – I’ve gotten so many free new games from Amazon Prime it’s a crime.

Anyhow, at the end of 2024 – beginning of 2025 – my percentage played looks something like this:

I want to turn this into at least 75% played this year. I got very close to this back in 2023 before I bought the Jingle Jam bundle that threw all my stats off. I still haven’t tackled most of the games that came in that bundle, so that’s going to be a focus in 2025.

Blog the Games

Not only do I want to try a new game every week, if possible, but I also want to make a habit of blogging about the game I try. This helps to keep me accountable, provides more content for this blog, and hopefully motivates me to play these games.

A win-win overall.

Buy Only Games I Want to Play

Basically, what it says on the tin.

Stay away from bundles (which I did well last year), and ask myself: “Are you going to play this game immediately upon buying it?”

This keeps me from buying sales games and shoving them in the backlog, compounding the issue. I was pretty successful at playing almost all the games I bought last year, so I want to keep this up.

Focus on Switch Gaming

Yes, I always want to play my Switch more. Every year. But I’m serious this year. In fact, I might go play my Switch directly after blogging this.

I have a TON of fantastic and inspiriting games, including almost the full Final Fantasy series and lots of Zelda games, all crying out for me to love them. I want to love them, but I have an issue with dragging myself off my PC to do gaming otherwise.

This may require a bit of habit building and habit breaking, but I want to make this a thing. I also have a number of games that I’m on the tail end of getting close to finishing that I’d like to put a pin in this year.

Wish me luck!

Finish Blogging Projects

Aside from the Backlog Bloggery, I have a couple of long-term projects I’d like to complete on this blog this year. One is a coding project – moving quest calendar archives off of Pillowfort into the microblog section of this blog. The other is just me being lax in updating my model horse section.

Goals include:

  • Move the 2022 Quest Calendar Posts
  • Update Breyer Model List from 2024

Finish Other Coding Projects

Outside of this blog, I keep up with several large creative websites. Each of these have their own projects that I want to work on.

Build Wayrift Archives

While I just finished all the usability improvements on Wayrift’s full-chapter archive pages, it’s come to light that some folks really want me to return to a page-by-page format for the comic. There’s well over 1,000 pages of comics on this site, so… that’s going to take time and dedication.

The one upside of this is that I’ll be able to re-import all the old comments that we lost when I moved the site to Neocities. Some of these comments are 15+ years old, and being the packrat I am, I want them back!

Set up Sygnus.org as a Creative Hub

My site at Sygnus.org has long been a hub for my creative FFIV projects. I do love the oldskool landing page, but I’m considering redesigning this page to be more conducive to a creative hub. Especially since I’d like to start updating some projects there again (looking at you Runne).

What I’d like is some cool cover art and an iframe that helps keep up with all the updates across the network. I put in some time for the cover art last year, but it’s not quite finished yet. I’ll have to see how it fits and works in the end, but it’s something I’d like to do.

Read More Books

Pretty simple and forth-right. I want to read more books.

Seems that “reading” can include listening to audiobooks, based on responses from last year’s goals. This is good because I have lots of Audible books in my backlog.

Last year, my goal was 8 books. I read 10 instead of 8, so this year, I’m bumping that up to 10 books. I have a couple of shorter books (with deeper content) I want to start the year out with. I’m fairly confident I’ll be able to tackle this goal and likely go beyond it.

Use My Traveler’s Notebook More

Last year, I invested in a traveler’s notebook. I did use it quite a bit, and I do continue to love it. In fact, I hand-made notebooks for friends and family and gifted them out last year.

Last year, I had a separate planner book, which I did use off and on, but not consistently. This year, I bought calendar inserts for my traveler’s notebook, and want to combine my planner/calendar into one setup. I’ve done away with wall and desk calendars this year completely, and I’m focusing on building planning habits around my traveler’s notebook.

I’m also building lists in my notebook. Last year, I found it fun and helpful to keep a list of shows and movies I watched because I tend to be forgetful of whether I’ve seen something or not (unless I thumbs up it in Netflix – which is not an option in Prime).

This year, I’m creating a list page for shows/movies as well as games. Maybe even books – though I do keep up with my books on Bookwyrm.

It’s just nice to have all of these listed in one place. And there’s something about writing out the titles that sparks memory of what I watched or engaged in that I don’t get by just checking it off on a digital list.

Have you set any goals for yourself for 2025? If so, what do they look like?
