Backlog Bloggery: Pushika - Cat Sukia Game

Posted on January 24, 2025 by Aywren

Pushika is an adorable and free cat sukia game – a puzzle game where you stack similar elements to combine them and make larger elements. This may sound simple and silly, but it’s actually quite addicting and very fun!

I was first exposed to the sukia type game when this past year’s Jacquie Lawson Advent Calendar included a Christmas-themed one – this calendar is something that my brother-in-law gets for me every year. He, my sister, and myself all had a copy and every one of us found this mini-game to be entrancing.

After the holiday season, we were chatting about the game, and I decided to do some research. I didn’t know that there was an official name for this type of game (sukia), but a bit of searching online led me to it. Once I had that, I started searching Steam for similar games.

There are a number of games out there, most at lower price points, and each with different themes. Some have more polish and features than others. However, my sister told me to just select one, so I started out with a cat-themed free game, and it has been very much worth mentioning.

While it’s mostly a straight sukia game, Pushika has additional mechanics in sometimes getting fish instead of cats. These fish have a variety of effects on the board, and can be used to move, remove, and even shrink cats.

Keep in mind, similar to Tetris, you end your game if you overflow the container. So, the idea is to strategically save space, while the merged elements work against you because they get larger and larger.

Lots of fun – I’ve linked the original Sukia browser game that you can try for free at the top of this post, as well. Give it a shot if you haven’t, and explore a few on Steam, too! You’re bound to find one with a theme you enjoy!
