FFXIV: Days of Relics

Posted on July 8, 2025 by Aywren

I’ve been in a funky mood when it comes to gaming lately. I even wrote a post about this which I never posted – I will probably write a post about that post at a later date. But to get to the point, I decided not to post about feeling in a gaming slump, and to actually take action about how I was feeling instead – hence, the motivation that led to this post.

I’m working towards making a hand-written gaming journal of sorts – something I’ll blog about later, I’m sure – and one of the things I did was write out a list of things I haven’t done in FFXIV, but that I want to. One of those activities was to clear out some of my retainer’s inventory where it comes to the collection of old, unfinished relics that have accumulated throughout the past almost-twelve years of playing.

This has been an ongoing thing for me. I’ll put in time while the relic weapon is still relevant, and usually fall off once I get several steps in because of the time requirements or difficulty requirements to proceed. And so, I have a little section of inventory where these relics have gone to sit for years, untouched, in various states of completion.

Dragoon Anima Weapon

The weapon I was closest to finishing was the Heavensward Anima for Dragoon. I was about two or three steps out from being done. I wrote about this weapon’s progress back in 2017, after having put a lot of time getting to the “Light” farming phase. I remember being proud of how far I came, and having farmed out the Singing Clusters one by one.

But once I hit the light farm, I just let it slide and I haven’t really worked on it at all since 2017. While I don’t main Dragoon anymore, I still really like the design of the finished Anima with the glowing dragon overlaid upon the trident. So, I decided to do a little research and pick it back up again, especially since everything can be soloed unsynced at this point.

I learned that the fastest way to finish light farming for the Anima is to solo The Eyes of the Creator (Savage). While my Dragoon is still only level 90, and not in the best gear, he was able to clear it. I did pick up a few upgrades for him after the first try, and then took him in to face the raid repeatedly. Not only could he solo it just fine, he usually cleared it in under 2:20 – so runs were quick and did not pose a danger.

It took several runs but finally, the light farming phase was done!

I then had to do a side quest to create a Newborn Soulstone, which required purchasing materials with Grand Company seals. I have tons of those to dump into something like that, so it was no issue. Once both steps were complete, I finally had a dragon trident!

But despite the quest telling me it was “done,” that wasn’t the end. If I wanted the final, dyeable version of the weapon, I had one more quest line to go through. This one required defeating every primal that had been released up until that point in the game, one by one. This was no sweat for a level 90 Dragoon to complete unsynced, however, and in less than an hour, I’d buttoned up the requirements for the final quest.

And there it was, the Areadbhar Lux. The first relic weapon I’ve actually finished, aside from the Manderville relics.

I still have the Bard Anima and the Bard ARR weapon sitting in my inventory unfinished. Along with a few other bits and bobs, though I’m not sure I care as much to finish those. It really depends on the time sink. I know the ARR relic will take a while as I’m on the Book phase.

Dawntrail Relics

I did finally finish up the Atma stone grind for the newest relic weapons. This has led me to earning two new relics so far.

First the Red Mage relic:

And as of last night, the White Mage relic:

Neither of them is super exciting in terms of aesthetics for me, but a relic is a relic when it comes to the stats. Especially since I haven’t unlocked the Arcadion raids on Tad yet, so that weapon is not something I can work on (maybe in the future).

For now, however, the new Mogtome event just started today, so I’ll be ocean fishing a whole lot to work on that. There are several mounts I want this time around. It’s going to be a busy month leading up to the next patch, for certain!
