Steam Gaming: Cornerpond

Posted on August 18, 2025 by Aywren

Cornerpond gets its name from the fact that it’s a tiny fishing game that sits at in the bottom corner of your monitor screen. I’ve seen a number of games that use this mechanic lately, and I’m a fan of these idle tiny screen games in general. This is the only one I own so far – it was a gift from a friend while I was just getting out from the hospital – but I have several more of these types of games on my Steam wishlist.

While Cornerpond is mostly an idle game, you can interact to help out when your little fisher is reeling in fish by clicking on small targets that pop up on the screen. This is usually only needed when trying to reel in a tougher fish, though, as gradual equipment upgrades tend to be enough to let the fisher do their own thing.

The game is all about catching fish to gain levels which unlock new equipment, bait, and locations you can spend money on. Money is earned by selling the fish you catch, naturally.

You can purchase gear upgrades and increased storage space for the fish you catch.

Purchase different types of bait that unlock as you level.

And purchase cosmetics to change the look of your fisher.

There’s also a little quest system, which is mostly just targeting specific fish to catch. These refresh every 3 hours.

Of course, the better your fisher gets, the better the fish they can catch, which earns more money and experience in the long run. It’s also quite customizable, meaning you can change the size of the game area on your screen, move it around to different locations on your screen, and that sort of thing. Pretty much the first thing I did was make mine a little larger – and the cute pixel graphics resize quite well!

This is a short post for a fairly simple game – but simple in a good way. Not everything needs to be super challenging to be fun, and sometimes it’s nice to have a tiny pond in the corner of your screen where your fisher is just doing their own thing.

The Overwhelmingly Positive rating on this game, at such a tiny entry price, is really all that needs to be said. If you’re interested, but have any doubts, there’s a free demo to try out, too. Definitely worth giving it a shot if you’re a fan of idle games and the fishing theme appeals to you!
