OSRS: A Return to Old School RuneScape
Posted on August 22, 2025 by Aywren
I wrote last week how I’d made the leap to membership and returned to playing OSRS. The goal with this was to force myself to slow down a bit and try to savor my gaming experience more. Overall, I’ve had a good time popping in and out of OSRS to pick away at small goals and quests.
Quest Fun
I’ve put some time into a couple new quests – Misthalin Mystery and Priest in Peril. One thing that I enjoy about OSRS are the quests, and how they never take themselves (or you) all too seriously. Coming from FFXIV, a game that does have its humor, but certainly has very serious tones, it’s a breath of fresh air.

Misthalin Mystery had me checking out a scene from a Scooby Doo murder mansion, pretty much. While Priest in Peril had me doom all the folks of the entire landscape, and then fix my mistake all in one evening. I appreciate the writers as they seem to manage to strike just the right amount of humor in all that they do, but not in a juvenile way. It’s well written and I tend to always enjoy the quest interactions.
Fishing and Cooking
Other than that, I did spend some time leveling my fishing, like I said I would. While I was fishing, I decided I may as well level up my cooking on the side, too. From that, I earned a bit of gold from selling fish – both cooked and raw – on the Grand Exchange. Nothing amazing, nothing pressing, just some chill salmon fishing.

Agility Training
I also spent some time leveling my agility. OSRS did a big rework of agility rooftop courses right after I took a break from the game, naturally. So, all the struggle I went through to reach the very first course to start training is no longer a thing. Now, the first course is right out in Draynor Village, which makes a lot more sense than what I had to do.
I finished up the last few levels I needed at Al Kharid. Then I hopped over at level 30 to the Varrock course all the way through level 40. The next course I needed was in Canifis, which is the reason why I undertook the Priest in Peril quest to unlock that area of the map.
I’m currently working on leveling and earning Marks of Grace for the Graceful Outfit. This is the course to use for earning the most Marks over time, so I’m stick here for a while until I get that done. It’s certainly going to take some time, but I pop on a YouTube video, chill, and run the course when I want to wind down. That’s all what I was hoping to do anyhow with RuneScape.

In fact, I already feel a bit of a shift in gaming for me due to OSRS, just as I hoped. I’ve buckled down to achieve a few tasks I’ve wanted to do in FFXIV, for example. But that’s a post for another time.
