FFXIV: Dawntrail Relic Achieved!

I’m several days late in writing up this post. However, this past weekend, I finally finished filling up the Aetherwell stage of the Dawntrail relic weapon!
It took me a little bit longer than most folks who dedicated time to it every day, but my goal was to complete it on Saturday. This was mostly because on Sunday, Syn was heading out for the week on a work trip, which meant I wouldn’t be rouletting for a while. I still am too shy to run these things by myself… even after all these years.
It was quite the experience, as I noted in my previous post, running stuff I had very little memory of and doing so mostly blind. Then there was the time I got partway into a Beatrix trial (yes, I know she’s called Zelenia in FFXIV, but in FFIX, she was Beatrix, so she remains for me), and the battery on my wireless mouse died without warning.
Now THAT was a trial. I do about 80%-90% of my gaming with my mouse (yes, I’m a clicker, but I also mouseturn, and do so quite often), so I was very much crippled during this run. In my defense, I had an extra battery stored under my monitor stand, but for some reason, it, too, was out of juice. I now have three batteries stored there.
I’ve been stocking up on Tomes for the moment I finished this step. Often, I’d cap out and then spend 500 on the previous relic just so I wasn’t losing Tomes. It wasn’t any trouble to quickly hop back over to the Phantom Village and finish all the quests up to get my relic.
Though, I did find it interesting that the little quest dialogue you get during the relic quests is actually somewhat tied into the Occult Crescent story. In fact, I found those quests more interesting than most of the so-called story we got for Occult Crescent. Especially when discussing kitchen knives and tonberries.
Anyhow, I’ve taken a little break from running stuff this week since, as I said, Syn has been gone on a work trip. But once she gets back, I’ll be helping her complete her runs, as I promised her. If nothing else, at least that’ll earn me some more Tomes for more relics. I have a good number of base relics already, so upgrading them won’t be too difficult.
It might not be popular opinion to like the Tome step for multiple relics, but I appreciate it. I know if I had to farm demiatmas or run these roulettes for additional jobs, I simply wouldn’t. There are just too many jobs now and not enough time for all that. So, I think this is a good compromise between folks who want a more involved process and casuals like me who will suffer through the first step knowing everything else is unlocked by Tomes.
One way or another, I got a sparkly rapier!
