No Man’s Sky: Building a Corvette in the Voyagers Expedition
Posted on September 29, 2025 by Aywren
Not all too long ago, No Man’s Sky introduced a new type of ship called the Corvette – one that you could completely build from scratch. This has apparently been a huge success in terms of bringing folks both new and old back to the game, especially for the newest Voyagers Expedition.
Building a Corvette
I finished up this expedition over the weekend, and I was able to explore the new Corvette ship and its building system a bit. Similar to building a base, the game provides you with ship parts. Some act as rooms or corridors while others act as upgrades, such as thrusters for speed or guns for attack.
Within the ship itself, you can then build stations and furniture. For example, you can build miniature farming plots where you can plant and harvest crops, a small kitchen area where you can cook, and even a storage container. The coolest thing about all of this is that it’s part of your ship, so it goes wherever you go! Gone are the days of chafing due to lack of portable storage, and that is so, so nice.

If you’re playing multiplayer, folks can also board your ship and go anywhere you take them. Essentially, the ship is not only super customizable, but it acts as a complete base, and really makes multiplayer all that more immersive.
The only thing is… I don’t have much of a mind for building cool ships. I can certainly see how folks could build their own dream ship and lose hours in customizing each and every part. For me, I will need a lot more time with the system to build anything that resembles a ship that’s actually capable of flight. Thankfully, even if your ship is just a cluttered mish-mash of parts (like mine was), it can still fly.

The expedition introduced the entire process of building a Corvette from scratch fairly well. Just don’t do like I did and throw together something facerolled… because once the expedition is over, you have the option to export the ship you built out of the expedition (with all the free parts and additions you built).
I suppose you can always go to any space station and build one from scratch, but the expedition gives a good head start by gifting pieces without needing to purchase them or scrap them together.
Other Fun Things
There are also a number of other really cool new features with this update. The Corvette has a hatch on the back which essentially frees you to leave the ship any time you please. Yes, even in space.
Whereas before, if you for some buggy reason ended up in space, you insta-died (I had it happen once), now, space is completely open for you. Just open the hatch and spacewalk to your heart’s content. I need to do this more.
If you’re within the planet’s atmosphere, this turns into skydiving. With your jetpack, this is quite fun and I highly encourage you try it! Once you reach the ground, the game provides an on-ground warp back to your ship. Or you can just summon your ship like normal – so there’s no fear of losing your ship from jumping out of it.
You can also now put your ship on autopilot when in space and walk around it. So, if you just want to let the ship cruise while you tend to stuff around your ship, you can do that.
But the Bugs…
The one down side to all these great new features was… all the bugs. And I ran into a LOT of them.
Once, I put my ship on auto-pilot and had no option to sit back in the pilot chair to take control of it again. The only option I had was to reload my save. At least every time you stand up from your chair, the game saves, so it wasn’t a huge loss.
Once, I was just idling in my ship within a space station. Somehow, another player’s Corvette landed on the same docking spot as my ship, and this forced me out the bottom of my ship… which wouldn’t be an issue if I hadn’t closed the hatch (for reasons I’ll get into in a moment). Someone else was literally docked on top of my ship, but their ship was invisible to me, and I had no way of getting back inside my ship.
Had to reload that save, too. Eventually, I just left the space station and return to it again to get a fresh docking spot.
I learned to save a LOT in this expedition because you just could never tell.

Then there was the time when Syn and I met up in game to complete the achievement where you ride in someone else’s Corvette for a ways. Though we both landed in the same space station, our ships were invisible to the other player.
Syn eventually saw my ship load in, and was able to ride in it. However, her ship never loaded in for me, and we were forced to go down to a planet where she summoned her ship. Only then did it become visible to me.
And the Annoyances
So, the thing about the Corvette is that you have no control over who walks in your ship and uses it. Just like your base. This wouldn’t seem to be an issue at first… until it was.
For example, I was docked at a space station. A couple of other random players whom I did not know decided to walk in my ship while I was standing right there at it. One of them even rudely harvested my plants (which take 4 hours to grow), not even asking if it was okay for them to do.
Now… I was done with the milestone that required I harvested plants from my ship. But what if I wasn’t done with it, and that player had come along and took my plants? That would have meant I would have had to wait another 4 hours IRL time because some stranger just swiped my stuff without permission.
After that, if I idled at a space station, I did so with a closed hatch. That’s the only way I can see that you can prevent other players from boarding and doing whatever they want.
Don’t get me wrong. I don’t mind being helpful to others. But that was straight up rude. It also has made me question what I will and will not install on my Corvette once I revisit it to make a more lasting build.
So, while I do feel like this is a big step forward for what ships are in No Man’s Sky, I also have seen the issues and the complications they bring. If you’re docking at the Space Anomaly, just be careful of other players walking through your hatch, okay?
