FFXIV: New Main Progress
Posted on November 17, 2025 by Aywren
This weekend, after switching my Main character to be Amon in FFXIV, I had a number of in-game projects on my plate. My full focus was on rearranging everything I could on my Main to match what my Amon alt once had. Some of this has turned out to be faster and easier than I expected. Other parts of this, not so much.
Grand Company Change
One of my first projects was to switch Grand Companies from Flames to Adders. Most of my characters are Adders, and the Free Company association is also with Gridania. So, it’s always been a little weird that my Main was Flames – this was just what I picked back in 2013 when I first started playing the game, and it was for no real sentimental reason.
Overall, I’ve grown to much prefer Gridania, and there have been times where I’d accidentally try to use the wrong Grand Company NPCs for the wrong things because I’d forgotten my personal GC didn’t match. Amon’s character is associated fully with Gridania and the Adders, so I knew I’d need to make the change.
Switching is easy. But then I had to level back up to the Captain rank that I had before. I expected this to take a lot longer than it did – though the bulk of it still took a couple of hours.
This is because you have to earn all of the GC seals for the lower ranks – which I always have done with running very specific Grand Company leves. Then, you’re required to do some GC hunts in order to progress, some which need you to go into side dungeons, such as Halatali. These are a cakewalk at level 100, so that didn’t take long.
Eventually, the GC requests you to complete dungeons - Dzemael Darkhold and Arum Vale – which are also super fast to solo now days. Once I finally got to the point where I had unlocked my Squad (which I didn’t have to re-level again, thankfully), all that left was to run the two Flagged Missions to earn my final ranks. Those are time-gated, so I was forced to wait two days to get that done.

But finally, I earned Serpent Captain again. Nothing to it.
Housing Exchange
Another major project was rebuilding Amon’s R&D Lab in his personal FC room and his Tea and Tomes shop – which used to be located in the Alt Amon’s apartment. This required clearing out an entire section of the FC chest, and the use of four other alts as temporary housing item mules. Yeah, I don’t skimp on my decorations, so there was a lot to stash and move.
I also re-built the FC Recreation Room – which was the room my Main had hosted up until now – on Ben’s character. So that was a third room I had to juggle furniture for and rebuild piece by piece via screenshots. I got the two FC rooms exchanged in the first couple of days. While I don’t think they fully match the original builds, they’re close enough.

Tea and Tomes has been a different story, however. Because my Main is the house owner of my account, I was able to graduate Amon’s shop from an apartment to a full small house environment. This took me the better part of two days to decorate. While I did already have a theme in mind, somewhat based off the original shop design, again, I had to juggle out old furnishings, move a bunch of that into storage or onto an alt, and pull in the shop décor.
I’m pretty close to hitting max item limit already – which is nowhere near what I need it to be for what I want to do. I’m also not putting too much time and effort into the design because I know that not too far down the line, we’ve been promised the ability to upgrade the interior size of houses. I’ll be going for a large house interior immediately, which means I’ll have to redo the entire layout… but it is what it is.
I’m overall happy with the outcome, though I’ll probably tweak it some more on down the line.
Snek Runs
The one thing that hasn’t been fruitful yet are my runs to obtain the Caduceus minion. I know I read somewhere that the drop rate for this minion has increased, but I’m not feeling it. 20 runs in, and I’ve only seen the boss card drop twice, and the music drop twice, and the furniture piece drop once. But no snek.

Being on Amon without Cadu is harder than I realized it would be. This snake minion has become just as much a part of his identity as his hat and goofy smile. Those who interact with Amon on any basis are very much aware of Cadu, and the snake often gets as much love as my character does, much to my delight and honor.
I’ve been tirelessly working on reclaiming Cadu because it just feels empty without him there next to Amon. The first time I did this was back when this was new content in Endwalker, and I had to run with Trusts. But now, item level is such that I can solo run it without a Trust, and it overall takes less time. It’s not super fast – my best run was a little over 14 mins on Red Mage – but when I have a couple of FC friends join me (thank you!), we were getting some of these runs down to a 6 minute science.

The first time I farmed Cadu, it took 25 runs to earn him. I’m already up to 20 runs, so it’s feeling hard to believe my chances are better than they were back when this content was relevant. I’m not giving up, though. It took close to a month of farming last time, so I can hang in there this time, as well!
Aside from that, I’m mostly just piecing together missing glamour, identifying missing emotes that I need to pick up again, renaming and fantasia-ing my retainers, tweaking my chocobo companion, and reworking a bit of my Island Sanctuary to replicate what I had on my Alt. Overall, this move has required some time and effort for me, but I’ve certainly been playing a lot more FFXIV since I made this choice!
With a Mogtome event starting this week, and a number of rewards that I want this time around, I’ll be on to ocean fish as much as I can! I might even finally buckle down and work on some big fishing achievements. Well, once I get Cadu again, that is.
