FFXIV: Learning How to Make the Obscurum Phantom Relic Weapon in Patch 7.41

Posted on January 28, 2026 by Aywren

Final Fantasy XIV patch 7.41 dropped yesterday bringing a new step in the Phantom Weapon relic questline. Much of this echoes the previous step in terms of how to complete it with a crafted portion and a grinding portion. Here’s what we’re looking at!

You pick up the new quest in the Phantom Village, as you have the previous quests. You must have completed a Phantom Weapon Umbrae from the previous quest step to do this.

Timeworn Techniques

The first phase of this step requires purchased materials and crafted items. You can craft the items yourself if you have well-geared level 100 crafters who have unlocked Master XII recipe tomes.

If you can’t craft the items yourself, you can purchase them from the marketboard or ask a crafter friend for help. Here’s what you need:

The price for the crafted items varies depending on server – I did some server hopping to find the best prices. I saw some for as high as over 300K early in the day, but the prices were dropping pretty quickly as the day wore on. I’d imagine these shouldn’t be too expensive given a bit of time.

In Pursuit of Perfection

The next phase is a “light” griding phase. You receive a Phantom Glass that allows you to gather Crystal Paste, which you will need to collect in bulk to finish this step. You can see which activities provide Crystal Paste from the various pages within the Phantom Glass, which is a special item placed in your Key Items inventory.

Here’s the basics:

  • You need to gather a total of 1,200 Crystal Paste.
  • You do this in stages, delivering a specific amount for each stage. For example, the first stage requires 100 paste, the second requires 200 paste, and so on.
  • You can keep earning paste even if you’ve already capped what you need for the stage you’re on. So, you can earn the entire 1,200 paste and turn it all in at once.
  • You don’t have to have a relic equipped, use a particular job, or be even level 100 to earn paste from activities.
  • You can still earn paste even when you no longer have a daily bonus from a roulette. This means you could effectively run several Leveling, Expert, or Level Cap dungeon runs in a day to farm paste.

The community seems to feel that spamming Leveling roulette or doing Pilgrims Traverse floor 71+ are the most efficient ways to farm. However, if all you do is a Leveling and an Expert every day, it would take 34-ish days to earn what you need for this step.

I’ll likely take the more casual and long-term way as I’m also still collecting Tomes for gear. I might sprinkle some Occult Crescent runs in there seeing I haven’t been out there in a while, and I know there are new jobs to unlock.

Here’s a video to see what your relic of choice will look like once it’s upgraded. Some of the glow colors have been switch around this time, and I find a few curious choices. And that Astro design? Yeah, I’m liking that one even though I don’t play the job!

Best of luck on your relic grind however you choose to do it!
