FFXIV: Master of the Sea
Posted on April 1, 2026 by Aywren
The Mog Tome event started in FFXIV yesterday and I have been in deep with Ocean Fishing. My goal was to not only earn the tomes I needed for the emerald gwiber mount, but to also reel in some fish in my ocean fishing log and hopefully finish the 1 million point achievement for the minion.
My ultimate goal is to earn the title for the 3 million point achievement… but one thing at a time! Right?
Anyhow, I’ve known about the Ocean Fishing tool at Lulu’s Tool website for a while. I think it was during the last Mog Tomes event that I started getting serious about fishing up all the fish in each location. As of now, I still have six fish evading me, all that can only be caught during a Spectral Current.
Aside from that, I pondered over how to earn the Master of the Sea title. I managed to scrape up enough points during the last event to earn the Ocean Fisher title, which I was pretty proud of. But seeing how hard I had to work to achieve that, I wondered what it was I was missing that made it possible to rope in over 20k points for one voyage.

The very first boat of this event, I was lucky enough to be on a ship along with Fruity Snacks. Fruity wrote a really great guide to fishing in FFXIV, and also creates a lot of great fishing content on YouTube. So, I was listening carefully when Fruity was providing bits and pieces of advice about ocean fishing. One thing he noted was the use of Patience, which I’ve never implemented during an ocean voyage.
This made me investigate more, and I discovered this video by another content creator that specifically gave tips on earning points during Ocean Fishing. I already knew and used about 90% of what was in the guide just by stumbling through things, but that little 10% of information that I didn’t know changed everything for me.
While RNG still plays a big part in earning points, I put these tips into play the next boat I boarded and sure enough, I broke 20K points for the first time ever, earning the Master of the Sea title! Since then, I’ve been pretty consistent in earning far more points than I used to, unless the voyage is completely devoid of Currents.

This has made me far, far more excited for fishing than I have been in a long time. In fact, I had so much fun yesterday and completely blew through earning all the tomes for the mount in one day. Today, I blew through all the tomes for the orchestrion roll that I wanted. I’m also very close to finishing the On a Boat IV achievement, which is the 1 million point achievement I set out to do.

However, I don’t think I’m going to stop there while the Mog Tome event is going on. While the boats still go out fairly reliably even when there’s not a Mog Tome event, there are far more people crowding around for fishing making boats and points much faster to earn.
Also, the title is inspiring me to consider branching out to other activities, such as finishing up my fishing logs around the world – which I have not done – and knocking out fishing achievements – which I have many remaining. I’ve always been a fan of fishing in games, so I’m happy that I’m starting to understand and achieve things as a fisher in FFXIV!
