FFXIV: Space Bun Adventures

While I’ve been busy ocean fishing on Amon, I’ve finally come to a conclusion on what to do with his alt character slot that I moved back to Mateus last month. I’ve been very indecisive about it because I’ve been trying to find a personality that fits the feel of the character slot and all that it owns – this is my second-most developed character on my FFXIV account, after all.
I started with the idea that I’d make this slot Evanthe, an RP alt related to the Spot of Mummery story. But as much as I like her, she didn’t click. Maybe because she feels like she should be a sprout character who is leveling and exploring Eorzea for the first time. I ended up moving her to the secondary FC where she is now a proper sprout and feels much more accurate.
My second thought was to create a Dancing Green NPC alt, which I tried for a little bit. This was because this character slot has a level 100 dancer, lots of emote dances, and the Groovy Glasses unlocked, as well as the ability to unlock all of the glam for the NPC character. I really liked this and had even started working on a short fiction for the character, as well as a webpage.
However, the more I dove into that project, the more it felt uncertain and almost forced. I became aware that I wasn’t sure that I wanted another NPC on my account (I already have two, including my main). I gave myself several days of thought while feeling out whether I wanted to keep this character or not – the name and variations of the name are not easy to snag.
And if I did change it, whom would I change it to?
After pondering it through for a while, I decided on Kip!

There are several reasons he fits this character slot well. Like Amon, Kip is a tech nerd, so all of the tech stuff I accumulated on Amon, such as mounts and glam, work well for him. In fact, Kip was an OC that acted as an inspiration for Amon – they have a lot of things in common, so the same kind of mindset is there.
I’ve wanted to have a Kip character in FFXIV for a long time, but it wasn’t until the male Viera were released that I felt like I found a character with the right appearance traits (specifically hairstyle). I actually rolled a Kip Bun last year, but after characters got shifted around, I put him on the backburner. He was one of the few of my main Wayrift figments that did not have an in-game character made in their likeness – I have a Ben and a Tai – so it makes sense to roll a Kip.
Also – and this is a big thing – the whole Cosmic Exploration theme fits him so well. Back when I was poking around at the idea of a Kip alt, there wasn’t as much Cosmic Exploration content, and I didn’t make a direct connection to Kip due to that.

Cosmic Exploration is something I do want to participate in while it’s current. And since this character slot is a fully-leveled omnicrafter, Kip is in a great position to do just that. So, I’ve been sending Kip out to Oizys every day to complete the daily tasks and get some crafting done here and there. I’d love to get a set of cosmic relics for him one day, but that’s not the goal just now.

The only thing Kip’s missing is a main battle job. Machinist would be fitting enough for him, I suppose, but he’s more of a mind mage than a gun-wielder. I did unlock Machinist, but I haven’t had the time or the motivation to start leveling it on him. If I do, he’s already got a set of gear for it due to Amon having mained and geared Bard. So, there’s still work to be done with him.
I also spent last night swapping FC room themes with Fljot. She’d inherited the eatery room theme on her character’s slot, but given Kip is a tavern owner in Wayrift, that’s much more his vibe. So, I went through and swapped all the furniture between the two character slots to rebuild the eatery as Kip’s room.

Why do I mention this?
Because I feel like if I’ve gone as far as to rebuild a whole room layout for Kip, that means his character has a far greater chance of sticking permanently. And honestly, despite all the alt shifting I do, right now, I’d just like to get to a point where I will settle down with what I have.
Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have a mech op to pilot!
