Blaugust 2026 is On the Way!

In Memory of Belghast
This year, it’s been a bit of a challenge to start this announcement post. I rolled different opening points through my head, and decided I was just going to be honest and up front about it.
This is a tough write.
Earlier this month, the blogging community and beyond lost one of our own – Belghast of Tales of the Aggronaut. This shook the foundations of our community, but also drove the mentors of the Blaugust Discord to pick up the mantle of the event in Bel’s memory.
I wish I could have been a bit more instrumental in all this, but I’ve been juggling a lot IRL. I was out of town when I heard the news of his passing, and wasn’t able to put a lot of focus into the planning project due to simply being away from home and my main PC.
The mentors have done a bang-up job on setting things up! We all got a bit of practice last year when we took on hosting Blaugust in 2025 as Bel was dealing with the loss of his wife at the time. The same lovely folks have stepped up this year to make this all possible.
So much thanks to them for keeping this alive, just as Bel would have wanted!
I’d like to draw attention to this year’s Blaugust banner, which you can see at the top of this post. It was a collaboration of ideas and art across many voices in the Mentor Chat section of the Blaugust Discord.
There’s meaning behind the constellations – that through blogging, even across great distances, we connect with each other, making the kind of community that Bel sought to foster in all of his work.
Bel’s star sign constellation – Gemini – is included in the art. I thought this was such a nice sentiment and I wanted to bring notice to it because it’s easy to miss if you didn’t know.
Why We Blaugust
This year, more than ever, people need to create. Humans need to express themselves with a flawed authenticity that only humans can produce.
Blaugust is not a contest.
While there are rewards and incentives to post a certain number of posts, that’s never what it’s been about.
There are no winners or losers. There’s no failure at Blaugust.
The only way to lose is to not participate and see what you’re capable of.
Blaugust has always been a gathering of like-minded creators who want to share their love of the typed word with each other. It’s about building connections, understanding different points of view, and learning about ourselves and those with whom we share this vast virtual world.
It doesn’t matter if you write 20 posts or 2 posts. You gave it a shot, and that’s what matters most.
So, with that out of the way, won’t you join us this year?
