I Have Not Admitted Defeat, However… (Hybrid Workflow Project)!

Posted on October 15, 2026 by Aywren

It’s time for something a little different.

Or rather, time to do something I haven’t done in a long time. I’m going to just write off the cuff, straight into a CMS today. Into WordPress, in fact.

Let me indulge in a bit of rambling as a returning housewarming gift. Appreciate you!

As I stated in the title, I have not admitted defeat in my stance on content ownership and coding static HTML websites. However, I have been struggling to write lately, and the technical coding part of creating a post on my personal websitehas been a point of friction for me.

So, consider this a shift to a hybrid style workflow, if you will. Wherein, I author the first draft in a WYSIWYG environment – WordPress in this case – and later put the time and effort into moving it to my static site for long-term archiving (when I feel up to it).

This is something similar to what I actively do for my Spot of Mummery site. I draft and post content on my Tumblr account where I can interact with folks in the community, then on a weekly basis, code those posts back into a self-hosted static site as a safe archive. The best of both worlds, which I’m hoping I can utilize here, as well.

Poking around WordPress, I can see much has changed since I last used this blog, which was over 4 years ago. I winced at the addition of AI “helper” tools in the sidebar – which I will never indulge, mind you – and just observed the overall UI tweaks I see (nothing bad, just different).

I’m glad to know that they went back on their original limitations for Jetpack Social (or so I’ve heard), as having a system that automatically pushes to socials and RSS is a nice perk. You don’t know what you got until you have to manually do all of that, as I’ve had to with my HTML website.

I’ll be testing all that out when I publish this first post.

For now, I’m tentatively stating my intention to dust this blog off as a drafting and social tool (anything to get me writing more). It does feel nice to just ramble-type at the screen, as I have so many unwritten posts I want to get out of my head that I’ve just struggled with even starting. So, a change of pace might be the answer to overcoming my writer’s block.

At this point, I’ll maintain this site in its free format. I have no intention on purchasing a plan or adding a domain to it even though I don’t care much for the ads.

Anyhow, all this to say, I’m going to be hitting up my old haunts around here again – just in time for Halloween! A fitting thing, right?

I’m feeling a little better already. It was nice to shake myself out and get some casual writing done. Thanks for listening, friend!
