LOTRO Players: I Need Advice!

Posted on May 22, 2024 by Aywren

I’m thinking about casually poking around LOTRO again on my minstrel character. To be honest, I really don’t know where to start or how to approach the game after all this time… so if you have advice to give, I’d love to hear it!

Here’s some things to know about me:

  • I’m a lifetime VIP.
  • I own all of the expansions (I think?), but not all of the classes.
  • I haven’t consistently played since the Rise of Isengard expansion (so, over 10 years ago).
  • My highest level character is 75 – I do think I finished Isengard, but it was so long ago, I don’t remember much about it.
  • My goal would be to casually experience the main story again, solo. I know I finished all of that through Isengard on another character, but, again, I don’t remember much about it.
  • My minstrel is level 40, and I’ve never played a minstrel higher level than that. All I recall is one of my skills make me shout and the battle stance makes my hands glow. 😊
  • The legendary weapon system continues to confuse me. I know they’ve reworked it, and I actually sat down with some videos to update my Loremaster’s weapon, but that was a couple of years back, and I don’t remember any of it (again).

I have in my inventory a level boost that would take a character to level 120, and another boost for level 105.

I know that boosting a character might leave me swamped and confused on skills and trait trees. But, to be honest, I already don’t remember anything about the class. I could probably figure it out, though. Given that, do you think it’s a good idea to boost my minstrel?

Would boosting my minstrel allow me to more casually work through the story and old zones solo? I don’t recall if LOTRO has level syncing, or if you can just bust through content if you are higher level.

Is minstrel still a good class for solo story play? I do have a number of alts, but kinda want to use this character for this in particular. Especially since I just kitted her out with a nice Whimsy glam.

Anyhow, I’d welcome your feedback and suggestions! I’m leaning towards just boosting her and seeing what happens. I mean, the boost has just sat in my inventory, gathering dust and taking up space. I don’t see what it could hurt, unless someone has a downside to consider!

Thanks in advance!
