7D2D is Finally Releasing to 1.0!

It’s not a secret that our Posse has played the heck out of 7 Days to Die (7D2D), and it remains the game that played the most on my Steam account. My earliest blog post about 7D2D was back in July of 2014, after we picked this up during a Steam sale. While we haven’t played a whole lot recently, over the past 10 years, we’ve put more time into this game than we could have ever guessed we would!

It seems that every time we got a new alpha build, the game was significantly changed in some form. We watched as 7D2D evolved into the game  it is today – and I often blogged about our explorations and discoveries for many of the main alpha releases!

All that being said, 7D2D has finally announced that the game is heading out of early access in June/July. This is pretty exciting, a testament to the years of hard work and dedication to developing a game long-term as they have.

The one sour note to this release deals with folks who bought this game on a console. While PC players will just see the current PC version on Steam upgrade to 1.0, as you’d expect, this won’t be the case from console players. As noted on the official announcement:

Due to the significant technical differences between old and current console hardware, we will not be upgrading the legacy version. Legacy owners will have to buy the new title.  However, we are working closely with Sony and Microsoft to provide a discount to digital legacy owners on their purchase of the new console edition.

Alpha Exodus: Leaving Early Access

It sure sounds like console folks will have to pony up to buy the new 1.0 version – hopefully with a discount. However, it does seem that the legacy version, while rightfully being delisted from stores, will still be available to play if buying the new copy is not your thing. So, that’s good at least. Even in Alpha format, 7D2D is a good game.

Due to product and branding confusion, we will be delisting the legacy console version from digital storefronts when the new version releases. You will still be able to play your old copy if you own it, but no future purchases of the legacy edition will be possible.

Alpha Exodus: Leaving Early Access

Beyond the 1.0 release, there’s already a roadmap to take a gander at, as well.

The one last thing to be aware of, once the game hits 1.0 version, the cost will go up to $44.99. We’ve been seeing this practice with a lot of EA games that finally release, so this isn’t really a surprise.

Basically, if you want a copy at $24.99, you better get it now. However… I kinda doubt that anyone who was interested in 7D2D hasn’t already picked it up back when it was on sale for $7.99… right?

Anyhow, we’ll see how things go in 1.0!
