FFXIV: Riding Home to Mateus
Posted on March 4, 2026 by Aywren
Yesterday, something important happened in FFXIV – patch 7.45 dropped. What came with that patch was something I’ve been waiting on for many months. No, I’m not talking about new the Variant dungeon, which is apparently getting a mixed response. I’m talking about my home server finally opening for transfers and new characters.
You see, I make my home on Mateus, which is the second unofficial role play server of the game. Due the fact the population of the two RP servers is considered to be on the higher side, more often than not, Mateus is tagged with a “Congest” status. This means that no new character can be created, and no characters can get a paid transfer to move to the server.
Moving Alt Amon
So, why is this such a big deal to me? Back in November of 2025, I decided to change the identity of my main character slot to become Amon.
However, since I already had an alt on the server who had Amon’s name, I had two options: Use a name change on the alt Amon or move the alt Amon to another server to free up the name.
You can only use a name change every 24 hours, so there would be a 24-hour period when Amon’s name would be up for grabs. Not that I think anyone would have been randomly trying to swipe his name or anything, but I was still cautious about it. Also, I was just impatient due to inspiration at the time, and didn’t want to wait the 24 hours to change my main’s name.
So, I took the second option. I moved my Amon alt to a Dynamis server since server transfers to that data center were free.
I thought I’d just move Amon back to Mateus the next day and get a free name change, which would equal out the cost in the end. Only, at the time, I didn’t think it through completely.
First, I didn’t know that when you use a free transfer to a preferred world, such as those on Dynamis, that you couldn’t move your character again for three months. One way or another, my alt Amon would be locked down there for several months.
But then, I realized my second mistake. I forgot that more often than not, Mateus is closed to transfers.
Oops.
So, last month, I had almost done my three months of time on Dynamis, and was crossing my fingers that patch 7.44 would open the server again. And… well… nope.
When I learned that patch 7.45 would be this week, again, I was hoping beyond hope that Mateus would open. This time, much to my joy, it did!
It was time to move alt Amon back home. And trust me, I’ll never move my characters off Mateus again – well, for the reason of shuffling around names, at least. I really should have just used the rename system and waited it out.
Repurposing Alt Amon
Of course, bringing alt Amon home meant that I would also have to change his name and identity. This was something I’d been mulling over for a while because alt Amon’s character slot is the second most developed slot on my account. Only my main has more achievements, mounts, and minions.
In fact, alt Amon actually has more paid emotes, which I do miss on main quite a bit.
Anyhow, I celebrated the opening of Mateus almost immediately yesterday.

And of course, once he was moved, it was time to choose a new name and identity.

After much thinking, I chose to create a female Elezen that’s meant to be Tad’s daughter – Evanthe Kouris. I did this in part because I always have so much trouble choosing between having a female Elezen and female Viera. Now, I have both on this server!
I also promised myself that I’d never go back to making what I call a “me” character – a character using my net name. Even though I did use mostly the same character appearance as my old Aywren Elezen from years back, I wanted to create someone that has possibilities for stories and RP in my character roster.
Welcoming Evanthe
I was surprised at being sentimental about this change, though. Amon alt had been my Amon RP character for 8 years by the time I chose to move him to main. So, as I sort through things like the inventory and glamour dresser on Evanthe, I have so many memories attached to outfits and items that are also linked to Amon and his progress over the years.
It’s going to take some time for my mindset to shift and make Evanthe the “owner” of that character slot. There was a lot I needed to do including:
- Change retainer names and appearances
- Rename chocobo and dye chocobo a new color
- Rework portraits and adventure plate
- Buy a new apartment
- Buy a new FC room
- Move and reorganize housing items (I had another alt muling a lot of them all these months)
- Rework Island Sanctuary
- Figure out a new title and minion
- Decide on mounts for favorite mount roulette
I know those all seem like silly little details, but sometimes it’s the details that make a character feel different from others. I’ve pretty much achieved most of these, aside from working on Island Sanctuary and getting her chocobo a proper color. I also have no idea what sort of theme her FC house chamber will take on – her housing situation is just a mess.
On top if all, I’m not sure what job to use for her. Amon alt only had specific jobs unlocked and leveled, which include:
- Bard
- Red Mage
- White Mage
- Dancer
I’m just not sure any of these are a good fit for her, and I don’t really have the energy to be leveling yet another job right now. So, for the moment, I’ve left her with default bard due to the fact this is her highest ilvl job.

This character slot is also a fully leveled omni crafter and omni gatherer, which was another reason I wanted to preserve and bring it home!
Oh, and one last thing – I’ve been fibbing slightly. Yesterday, I posted that Ben was my 5th alt through Dawntrail MSQ progression. That’s sorta true, but sorta not.
Back when I moved alt Amon to Dynamis last year, he’d finished up to Dawntrail patch 7.3, and was geared just fine to take on patch 7.4 content. However, I never logged in to do MSQ on him. So, technically, yesterday when I brought the character slot back to Mateus, and finished up the story patch on Evanthe, that was my 5th time through 7.4. But who’s counting (aside from me)?
Earlier this year, I did some rearranging of characters on my second server, and I feel like I’m going to try and settle down with what I have now. All of the important RP characters are represented now across the two servers. I have both a bun and an elf girl, and Amon is still my main. What else do I need?
I know that I might eventually get the itch to repurpose characters again, but I’m going to try hard to be content with what I have. Mostly this is due to the fact I don’t have the disposable income to be paying for more name changes or character jumps (thankfully I stocked up on free fantasias). As always, I have more than enough to do on the characters I have, so now it’s time to try to enjoy them, right?
