FFXIV: Level 80 BLU
Posted on March 11, 2026 by Aywren
This past weekend in FFXIV, I spent some time focusing on leveling up the final job on Amon to cap. This happened to be Blue Mage.
I’d been sitting at level 74 out of 80 since sometime last year and just never dug my heels in to put the focus towards getting it done. It honestly didn’t take very long to do, even solo, and was definitely not hard at all.
I just went to a Shadowbringers zone that had creatures that were on level with me, found a place where I could gather up 4-5 creatures in one go, and took them out with the Ram’s Voice / Ultravibration insta kill technique. Then I’d chill for a bit and wait for the creatures to respawn, which usually happened shortly after the Ultravibration recast timer was up.
Nothing super exciting. Just something to do while watching a YouTube video on the second monitor and waiting for the timers to roll along. But there it is – max level for BLU for now!

I mostly focused this down because I heard speculation that with the upcoming Live Letter this Friday, we might be hearing about the Blue Mage level cap raising to 90. I figured if that is going to happen come sometime in the 7.5 series of patches, I needed to go ahead and get to 80 sooner rather than later. That way, I will only have 10 levels to focus on when that happens.
I also need to spend some time farming Poetics in order to buy some gear for my level 80 Blue Mage. While gear isn’t super important when it comes to damage since the Ultravibration technique is an insta-kill, it does help take some blows from the creatures you round up as you farm them.
The weird thing is, I haven’t actually played Blue Mage in years. I kinda fell off the experience when they took it from being a solo job with cool skill gathering and combos and stuck it in raid parties to earn the best skills. At this point, I’m so far behind on my skill accumulation that I doubt I’ll be able to do much about those I don’t have.
Maybe once we hit level 90 I could unsync some group content. But from my understanding, doing the content unsynced makes it far harder to earn the skills than if you’d gone in with a party of synced BLU. I just don’t know how many BLU care about old skills from years ago.
Glam Shuffles
The other thing I’ve spent time on this weekend was making lists of old glamour from the alt-Amon character. There were a number of pieces of gear that I have sentimental attachments to due to the fact that they were glam I wore over the years of Amon’s leveling experience.
I’m not sure what it was that reminded me about them, but I sat down and purposely dug through the glamour dresser on that character slot to make a hand-written list of the gear that meant something to me. I then hopped over to my Amon main and sorted out how to earn some of those pieces.
Most of them I either already had or I could easily pick up off the marketboard or other vendors. Some were AF gear sets that I could pick up from salvagers or AF venders. However, the Augmented Lost Allagan set of Aiming was one I had to farm Centurio seals for, and that took a few days of minor hunts.
All in all, I’m happy with rebuilding my old glam collection on my main as that’s continuing to make it feel more similar to things I’d achieved on my original character slot. That also allows me to clean out the glamour dresser on the alt of items that character will probably never wear.
I know I need to sort through both glamour dressers eventually and prune stuff I don’t need there anymore. But that’s a job for another time.
Alt Shuffles
Oh, and time for me to admit, despite only having this alt back on Mateus for less than a week, I’ve already changed the character’s identity again. Yes. Yes. I know.
Rolling the Fem Elezen seemed like a good idea and it was something I wanted to do. However, I struggled to feel what made her character click for me. I thought that eventually I’d re-discover that new-character excitement, and even went as far as to unlock Machinist on her. But when I took a step back, as much as I like her concept and design, I wasn’t feeling the inspiration.
So, I rolled back to another possibility I’d been thinking about – simply because Alt Amon has so many dances, emotes, and the Groovy Glasses. After seeing Dancing Green show up in around-the-town clothes at the Little Ladies’ Day event, I decided to change the alt to him instead.

I admit that I’m not exactly sure what I’m going to do with him yet – the last thing I need is yet another NPC and RP blog. Still, that character slot does have a level 100 Dancer and it’s fairly well geared, so I won’t need to worry about that. Besides, it will be fun to build a disco room in the FC house or maybe his personal apartment. I haven’t decided!
