FFXIV: Project Temu Green

Posted on April 6, 2026 by Aywren

Last week, I talked about my new Kip bun character and how I chose not to make my second-best character slot on my account another NPC. That doesn’t mean I’ve completely given up on the idea of having a Dancing Green character, however!

In fact, I repurposed an alt on Coeurl who I’d really not been doing much with for the past few years to be my new Dancing Green. Only… this character slot has a long way to go before he can match the quality of what would have been a Dancing Green on Mateus. Hence, the reason I’ve affectionately dubbed him “Temu” Green for the time being.

While it’s a daunting project, it reminds me of back in 2018 when I decided to work on Amon’s character. I started out all alone on Mateus, without a hat to be seen, and leveled everything – including crafters and gatherers. It was fun to build up a character from scratch the way I did Amon, only to see him come into his own over time, and finally become my main in 2025.

I’ve been looking for a long-term project like this that I can chip away at casually. And while I have no intention of leaving behind Amon and friends on Mateus, the challenge of being alone on a different server with just a tiny secondary FC that I built and maintained over the years, might be just the fun I’ve been looking for.

What I’ve Achieved

This character was originally a bard that I leveled up on Midgardsormr alongside of one of Syn’s characters. I don’t think I ever blogged our adventures testing out how far you can push the game unsynced – I browsed for a post, but couldn’t find one if I wrote it. Anyhow, this character eventually moved over to my Coeurl FC at the arrival of bun boys because I wanted an Amon Bun.

As much as I liked my Amon Bun, I never did anything with him. Part of the problem was I didn’t see an opening in the FFXIV story that worked for him. He is a level 74 Bard just starting Shadowbringers, so he’s several expansions behind to start with. Not to mention, Bard was the only job I’d ever played on him.

So, after changing him to Dancin’ Green (I couldn’t get the full “Dancing” name), the first order of business was to unlock Dancer – which starts at level 60 – and get the basics of Green’s glamour.

Green’s glam is more or less the Free Spirit’s set, minus the boots. This set can only be bought on the marketboard or earned by trading potsherds from the Aloalo Island dungeon. Green is nowhere near the point of running that, so to it was to the marketboard for me. Seeing that fewer people are running Aloalo lately, this was not a cheap set. I shopped around – I had to as there were no jackets or pants for sale on Coeurl – and even then, I spent most of what little money Green had.

He’s pretty broke, but at least he has the glam more or less. I say more or less because he couldn’t afford exact dye colors (pants are dyed Pure White and that’s more expensive than the pants were). So, even in his attempt to put together the glam, he’s a bit Temu. :)

Green has a second set of glam that I call the “about town” wear, which he wore during his appearance at the Little Ladies’ Day event. This includes the Critical Hit C-1 jacket and trousers that you buy with Trophy Crystals from PVP.

So, I unlocked Frontlines duty roulette and for the past three days, I’ve been PVPing to earn him not just a level for Dancer, but also the jacket and trouser to make his about town set complete. More or less. I say that because he’s nowhere near the level it takes to get the official boots he needs, so I’m supplementing boots (and the boot dye color).

It works, though.

I’ve also been working on earning MGP at the Gold Saucer so that he can actually have some of the cooler dance emotes. He already had some MGP stored up, so after a lucky mini cactpot win and the weekly fashion report, I was able to pick up the Bees Knees to start out.

Far better than nothing. I know I’ll probably reward myself with some of the store-bought dances as a few of my favorite dances come from there.

What I Have Yet to Achieve

This is a good start. I still have a long way to go including:

  • Level Dancer to 70 so I can start the Shadowbringers MSQ on that job
  • Eventually level through Dawntrail
  • Level a crafter to unlock some of the adventurer plate designs from Cosmic Exploration
  • Save gil for the airbike mount at Solution 9
  • (Maybe) Run Dawntrail FATEs for Solution 9 umbrella and some of the adventure plate designs
  • (Eventually) Get Groovy Glasses from the Arcadion raid

Right now, the focus is on slowly leveling my way up to be able to advance MSQ on Dancer. I’m considering Alliance raids and maybe beast tribe quests to make this push. In the meantime, I’ve started leveling his miner and botanist. While I plan on using the Cosmic Exploration to level a crafter just to see how it works, I still want gatherers leveled just out of principal. Doing Grand Company daily turn-ins isn’t a bad way to get that done, plus I need the seals as I need to level his Grand Company rank anyhow.

So here I am, making my life difficult by setting out to do a long-term project despite having a perfectly good character on Mateus with all these things already. Gotta follow the vibes, though!
