It’s Harder to Blog About Gaming (For Me)

Posted on August 14, 2026 by Aywren

The past few years, I’ve been blogging less and less, specifically about gaming – and I’d like to talk about why. Or, at least, why I think this is for me.

I do feel like I’m gaming less, for one. Or, at least, if not less, then I feel the desire to game less. This is especially true of picking up single player games. It feels like the only time I get motivated to play something anymore is when Syn wants to spin up a private server for one of the survival games we’re playing… or I’m doing my dailies with her in FFXIV.

This is absolutely not for lack of having amazing games to play, either! I have so, so many games in my backlog – I’ve stopped worrying about it, as I noted earlier – that do genuinely interest me. But when it comes to finding the motivation to sit down and enjoy a game, it just isn’t there.

Naturally, if I feel like playing less, I also feel like blogging less about gaming. But it seems a little more than just that. It used to be that I gamed with a focus of capturing moments and memories that I wanted to blog about from the get-go. I’d screenshot everything and proclaim to Syn (or myself) “This will make a great blog post!”

The excitement of creating and sharing those moments was just as much a part of the game as the gaming experience. While I still have a habit of snapping screenshots at every turn, I have far less drive to then turn around and document those gaming experiences that I have.

Sometimes, I feel a pang of guilt for not “keeping up” with my gaming habits in my blog like I used to. That often turns into delaying it more and more as I feel like I’ve fallen behind in writing the experiences… and I just don’t remember all the things that happened during our long gameplay sessions.

For example, that happened with the game Planet Crafter. I’m not sure that I ever actually wrote a post entirely about Planet Crafter, in fact. I mentioned it in passing during this post, where I glossed over the massive number of games that Syn and I tend to rotate through on Steam. But really, so many of those games I’ve never wrote a dedicated blog post about even though I’ve put so many hours into them.

I tried several times to start a post about Planet Crafter, including during last Blaugust. We had some really cool moments happen in that game! I enjoyed our time with it immensely… I just… was never motivated to write about it like I have been in the past.

Eventually, I crossed the game name off my to-do blogging list because so many months had passed since we last played, and those experiences had become foggy in my memory. I also had a number of new games and new experiences to focus on and I just… never wrote about Planet Crafter.

Which is a shame. It deserved a post.

Yet, this is a growing habit for me. We’ve put a LOT of time into Palworld this year. I’ve had so much fun with it, despite the fact that we’ve restarted twice due to it launching into 1.0 last month. I have Palworld as a game on my list that I want to talk about this Blaugust, but I’m finding it so difficult to sit down and actually write this post.

In fact, I had scheduled myself to write about Palworld today, and I’m writing this post instead. Simply because of the frustration I feel at my lack of motivation to write about gaming.

Given this is mainly a gaming blog, that’s a bit of an issue.

I can’t say that it’s a burnout thing because I’m enjoying the games I play. I just feel more like experiencing the games rather than creating content around them lately.

Maybe it’s a phase I’m going through. Who knows. And yes, I am dealing with some major shake-ups IRL that don’t help the situation, I know. I’ll talk about that some in another post.

For now, I think that’s really all I have to say on my blogging motivation predicament. I’m still going to do my best at finishing out Blaugust if I can. I don’t regret pushing myself despite all this because some of the things I’ve written this Blaugust have been helpful to me – including this!

Anyday I can actually write is a good day. Right?

Thanks for letting me get that off my chest! Whew!
